Yesterday (14th March) AIIM released the results from its new Industry Watch research study "Scanning and Capture Technologies 2007...Process Integration and ROI Enhancement."

The study of over 1,000 executives, sponsored by ABBYY Software, Captaris (NASDAQ GM:CAPA), EMC Captiva (NYSE:EMC), Kodak (NYSE:EK), Kofax (LSE:UK:DCM) and Visioneer, found that scanning and capture technologies are stable and in widespread use, yet, by no means "mature" industries. There still exists enormous opportunities relative to recognition, scanning automation, and process integration.

interesting point:
There is an increasing interest in AIIM's market research efforts outside the United States, and upcoming AIIM surveys will
refl ect this expanded perspective. Other regions (EMEA, AP, LatMex) within the world are becoming a stronger driving force in
deployment and implementation of capture technologies, and AIIM's research will expand to refl ect this in the months ahead.

Le 19 mars 2007, en marge de la 4ème session du Conseil des droits de l'homme à Genève, un événement va être proposé sur le thème "Archives and Human Rights: dealing with the Past, preparing the Future".

Organisé conjointement par le Conseil international des Archives, les Archives fédérales et le Département fédéral des affaires étrangères suisses, cet événement aura pour objectif de sensibiliser la nouvelle instance onusienne à l’importance cruciale des archives pour la défense des victimes de violations des droits de l'homme (lutte contre l'impunité, transition démocratique, prévention de la répétition des violations, transmission aux générations futures, etc ).

L’objectif est de représenter aux délégués du Conseil et aux organisations non gouvernementales de défense des droits de l’Homme l’importance de la préservation de ces documents.

La formule retenue pour l'organisation de cette action de sensibilisation est la suivante : nous proposerons une table-ronde de deux heures aux délégués au Conseil des droits de l'homme pendant leur pause-déjeuner; la manifestation se répètera ensuite à l'Université de Genève, afin d'approfondir la question et d'ouvrir le débat à un plus large public.

This toolkit facilitates internal audit by providing repository administrators with a means to assess their capabilities, identify their weaknesses, and recognise their strengths. It complements other emerging work on attributes and criteria for Trustworthy Digital Repositories.

Das Hauptziel des durch das Programm "INTERREG IIIA" der Europäischen Union kofinanzierten DANOK-Projektes ist die digitale Aufbereitung von Audiodokumenten und deren Langzeitarchivierung auf Mikrofilm. Im Mittelpunkt stehen hier vor allem Materialien oberrheinischer Kulturgeschichte. Diese sollen über ein nutzerfreundliches Internetportal der breiten Bevölkerung zugänglich gemacht werden.

Vier Arbeitsfelder bilden den Schwerpunkt des Projektes:

* Digitalisierung der Archivgüter
* Datenaufbereitung und Ausbelichtung
* Aufbau einer Internetdatenbank und Einspielen der verschiedenen Daten auf diese `virtuelle Bibliothek’
* Gründung eines gemeinnützigen Trägervereins durch alle Mitglieder

Sie haben sich sicher auch schon gefragt, ob es denn nicht generische Kriterien gibt, um elektronische Aktenbestände in die digitale Langzeiterhaltung zu überführen.

Zur Bewertung und Selektion von digitalen Unterlagen haben die Digital Preservation Coalition (DCP) und das Digital Curation Centre (DCC) entsprechende Frameworks (u.a. einen Entscheidungsbaum) geschaffen; anhand von gewissen Regeln können digitale Unterlagen systematisch bewertet und ausgesondert werden.

ArchiSafe was awarded 1st place in the 6th eGovernment competition for federal, state and local administrations in the "Most innovative use of technology" category. The competition is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the awards were presented on 8 September 2006 in Berlin.
