Technischer Workshop über Datenbank-Erhaltung (Database Preservation),

Das Schweizerische Bundesarchiv (BAR) offeriert einen zweitägigen Workshop über Datenbank-Erhaltung (Database Preservation) mit dem PLANETS Netzwerk (Preservation and Long-term Access
through NETworked Services)
Am Nachmittag des ersten Tages werden folgende Aspekte behandelt: eine theoretische Einführung zu relationalen Datenbanken, Darstellung der Herausforderungen von digitaler Archivierung sowie eine Einführung in den Lösungsansatz des BAR. Der zweite Tag besteht aus einem ganztägigen Praxisteil, wo die Teilnehmenden Erfahrungen mit Datenbank-Archivierung machen können. Alle Teilnehmenden sind aufgefordert, ihre eigenen Datenbanken mitzubringen, um sie mit SIARD zu testen. Die Kurssprache ist Englisch.

A variety of functional specifications for records management software has been developed in the international community. In 2006, the International Council on Archives agreed to develop a harmonised, generic suite of recordkeeping functional requirements for software products based on existing jurisdiction-specific specifications, and to do so in a manner consistent with the International Standard on Records Management, ISO 15489. It is hoped that this suite of guidelines and functional requirements will assist jurisdictions that are developing, or looking to adopt, their own functional specifications, as well as inform the update and revision of previously existing standards.

The SDSC has executed a pilot project for the Library of Congress.

Between May 2006 and October 2007, the Library of Congress (LC) and the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) conducted data-transfer and storage tests.
At the heart of the project was the issue of trust, specifically how the LC could
trust SDSC to reliably store several terabytes of the LC’s data. By what means
could SDSC prove to the LC that the data was intact, preserved, and well-cared for? What tests could the LC devise, and what metrics could SDSC produce, to guarantee the integrity of their remotely stored data?
