We do not use PDF/A at all because it is not accepted by the FDA in the publication of regulatory submissions. It also does not work with our current version of our submission publishing software, CoreDossier (Documentum). In fact, we are constantly struggling to keep our documents in Acrobat 5, as opposed to version 6 & 7 because of publication problems, particularly with the tabular format use in many of our nonclinical and clinical reports.

Perhaps others in the pharmaceutical industry have a different situation?

Ein neuer Kreisel beim Landvogteischloss Baden kostet total 6 Mio Fr. 3,3 Mio Franken verschlingen Strassenbau und die notwendigen Kunstbauten, 0,8 Mio der Werkleitungsbau und immerhin 1,9 Mio Franken der Bau des zweistöckigen Stadtarchivs, das unmittelbar im Bereich Landvogteischloss und Histrisches Museum im Untergrund erstellt wird. Die Bauarbeiten beginnen am 16. Januar und sollen im Sommer 2007 abgeschlossen sein.

ECM ist v.a. ein Vendor und Marketing Hype ! Die Breite ist zu fuzzy und lässt sich kaum je mit allen Möglichkeiten integrieren .. und ist v.a. für KMU kein gangbarer Weg.

Auf Anregung der wissenschaftspolitischen Abteilung der Schweizerischen Gesellschaft für Geschichte (SGG) soll eine Plattform geschaffen werden, die es ermöglicht, die Vernetzung der historischen Forschung in der Schweiz zu verbessern und gleichzeitig die Präsenz und Visibilität dieser Forschung als Teil der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften in der Schweiz und in der internationalen Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft zu verstärken. Das Projekt trägt den Namen infoclio.ch.

Im Mai 2005 erteilte die Schweizerische Akademie der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften (SAGW) und die Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Geschichte (SGG) econcept AG den Auftrag für eine Machbarkeitsstudie im Hinblick auf die Konkretisierung und die Umsetzung des Projekts infoclio.ch.

Das Gesamtprojekt umfasst drei Hauptaufgabenbereiche:
- information: Portal
- knowledge: HLS und e-Learning Angebote
- storage: elektron. Archivierung von Quelleneditionen

"storage" wird hier im Sinne von (digitaler) Archivierung verwendet und nicht im engeren IT-Kontext von Infrastruktur.

Die Empfehlungen im Bereich "storage" lauten:

infoclio.ch soll sich im Bereich Storage zum schweizerischen Kompetenzzentrum für Digitalisierungs- und Archivierungsprojekte im Bereich Geschichte entwickeln.
Damit werden Synergien zwischen den verschiedenen Archivierungs- und Digitalisierungsprojekten ermöglicht und die Grundlage geschaffen für fundierte Prioritätensetzungen im Rahmen einer nationalen Quelleneditionspolitik im elektronischen Bereich.
Finanzierung und Abwicklung von Editions,- Digitalisierungs- und Archivierungsprojekten werden auch in Zukunft primär ausserhalb von infoclio.ch stattfinden. infoclio.ch kann dabei seine Koordinationsdienste anbieten. Für spezifische gedruckte und ungedruckte Quellen von besonderer Bedeutung soll infoclio.ch die Editionsarbeiten und die Digitalisierung selber übernehmen können.

* Nur 22% der Unternehmen besitzen schriftlich kommunizierte Richtlinien zur Verwendung von E-Mail im Sinne der Corporate Governance
* Nur 35% der Unternehmen speichern Ihre E-Mails in entsprechenden Archivierungssystemen für die Langzeitverfügbarkeit
* Nur 10% der Mitarbeiter der Unternehmen wurden mit dem Umgang mit dem E-Mail System geschult
* 83% der Mitarbeiter erhalten täglich bis zu 20 E-Mails und 26% der Mitarbeiter erhalten 60 und mehr E-Mails pro Tag. Im Schnitt wendet der Mitarbeiter ca. ½ Stunde pro Tag um auf um die Eingangspost zu bearbeiten
* Der Anteil von E-Mail Speicherkapazitäten nimmt beachtliche 37% an Platzbedarf der Gesamtspeichermenge in einem Unternehmen

A mid-decay review

A survey by AIIM, the content management association, has shown that 23% of IT Managers and Information Managers are not familiar with the term Information Lifecycle Management and only 39% understand its importance in relation to long-term records storage.

The survey also found that only 19% archive their e-mails as records. Some 50% rely on the standard back-ups and a surprising 22% do not archive their e-mail at all.

In a recent article in Line56, Colman Murphy of Xerox points out an important truth about the spike in compliance-oriented projects: "Amidst all this spending, funding for electronic records management (ERM) initiatives has lagged." Many companies are following the letter of laws like Sarbanes-Oxley, but still failing to implement any reasonable semblance of a true records management program.

Certifications are more than specifications

Some people co-equate specifications and certifications, but in fact, certifications go beyond defining a standard or set of specifications. Certification bodies use specifications as a set of criteria for testing and qualifying vendors and other parties as compliant with the set of defined specifications. Certification implies both a rigorous set of specifications together with a rigorous testing procedure and set process for demonstrating a product's worthiness to be certified.

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- FileTek Data Management Capabilities Ensure the Reliability, Longevity, Scalability, Recoverability, and Integrity of Large, Long-Term Digital Archives

The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) recently awarded a $308 million contract to develop and deploy a multi-petabyte Electronic Records Archives (ERA) system to a team led by Lockheed Martin. FileTek, Inc., a data access and management software provider, will serve as a subcontractor on this ERA project.
