Digitalisierung braucht auch wesentlich "Information Governance". Dieser Aspekt wird noch zu wenig beachtet im allgemeinen Hype um die digitale Transformation und digitale Agenda, die schon fast jede Organisation irgendwie auf ihre Fahnen geschrieben hat.

Der Begriff "Governance" erscheint auch nicht in der neuen Studie der ETH Lausanne (EPFL) die unter der Leitung von Prof. Christopher Tucci mit Unterstützung der Swisscom und SIX zustandegekommen ist. Entscheidend ist doch die Frage wer solche Prozesse gezielt lenkt und steuert, jenseits von Hard- und Software bzw. Infrastruktur. Wer kümmert sich um die relevanten Datenflüsse und wie? Dies ist primär ein Organisationsproblem.

Die digitale Schweiz hinkt gem. dieser Studie in vielen Bereichen hinterher (Tages-Anzeiger 26.5.16, s.9) soviel ist klar. Sie hatte auch nie einen Vorsprung wie uns die Schweiz am Sonntag weismachen wollte (29.5.16, S.24, Digitale Schweiz verspielt Vorsprung, leider nicht in der Online Version verfügbar) auch wenn sich dies nur auf die digitale Signatur bezieht, die auch nur von grossen Firmen genutzt wurde.

Das Kompetenzzentrum Records Management (KRM) unterstützt und berät Firmen bei der digitalen Transformation im Bereich Information Governance und entsprechenden Strategien.

“Content as a service” is just one aspect to harness business information for better decision making. Possibly it's just old Business Intelligence wine in new bottles.

What's really true:
The whole IG/M space, including the associations, is having a bit of a tough time with its own transformation.
ARMA hst lost hundreds of members during the last few years and it is really difficult to get necessary awareness and support from the management. (WHO CARES?)

. .. it’s more of what and HOW should we be doing and to whom should we be doing it.

What has to be avoided is to follow a path of remaining an isolated GROUP of professionals which is missing its new vision and mission. RIM is just one discipline under the holistic umbrella of IG. ... and it's mainly an organisational challenge of change not a technical one ...

After some reviews about the implementation of the OAIS standard in the real world some are wondering what are the benefits of the concept over the long run:

Tenet of OAIS approach (ISO-14721)
- Self-describing / self-containing information packages contain content and contextual metadata without dependency on databases or technology through time

Pros:
• Interoperability over the long-term and economic benefits in heterogenous digital environments
• Longevity of understandability of business information independent on technology (interfaces)

Cons:
• more effort & complexity to perform
• Definition of the container to submit the package (package type, or SIP)
• Additional step prior to ingest where the database scheme is validated before submission (package)
• No (or very few) proven use cases where advantages of standardization had a substantial impact on economics or interoperability

Der Schweizer PC Papst Robert Weiss prägte in den 90-er Jahren und danach das bekannte Diktum:

Der Mensch-Maschine Dialog ist eine alte Disziplin und wir sind zwar etwas weitergekommen in Bezug auf Smartphones und andere intelligentere Geräte, aber es gibt nach wie vor grosse Hindernisse auf dem Weg zur digitalisierten Informationsgesellschaft..
Es ist eben ein grosser Unterschied Information einfach nur zu speichern oder sich in der Flut dann zurechtzufinden, bzw. diese dann gezielt zu steuern und zu lenken.

Kürzlich hat der dt. Soziologe Harald Wenzel einen beachtenswerten Artikel im Spiegel publiziert: Das Leben ist analog. Die digitale Diktatur. Und wie man sie bekämpft.

A stage where we will be able to bridge the gap between natural and synthetic, a phase where Homo sapiens and technology will merge?A society made by augmented humans?

The long running issues persist:
- e-Mail is still the big untagged, ungoverned and high-risk content type (39% describe their email mgmt as "chaotic"
- Dominance of Sharepoint: 40% describe Sharepoint as their "main" system; only 8% are using digital signing!
- 47% have an IG-policy that defines retention periods but half are not auditing compliance and 15% admit that those policies are mostly ignored (sic!)
- strong persistence of EFSS as ECM solution (enterprise file system & synchronization), 31% think that EFSS is taking over many ECM functions
- only 8% are working on a 3-tier system approach : collaboration+ECM (active phase) + RM (for inactive phase / archiving)
- 27% of mid-size and large orgs have no capture and workflow in place
